Sporting a new kit and following weeks of training, the hardy crew of rowers that made up this year’s team of Christeyns Cruisers hit the water in support of Bradford’s Dragon Boat Festival, held on the river Aire in Saltaire in June.

Bradford Dragonboat Festival is the largest of its kind in the UK and is now in its fifth year.

Over the three day event, 130 teams from across the region boarded their boats to raise money for the Lord Mayors Appeal, which this year supported Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and Bradford NightStop.

The Christeyns Cruisers, a team of 18, made it to the finish line without capsizing, led from the front by drum-beating cox Nikki Bell (pictured above). Christeyns also assisted in the provision of the pontoon used for the festival.

Team captain, Marta Spytkowski said: “It was a hot day and very hard work but a really memorable and enjoyable event for all of the team. We were delighted to raise £1,500 for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.”
