In October, Deeside Laundry, in West Kirby, celebrated its 125 years in business.
The family-run company serves customers across the North West and North Wales. It employs 50 people and supplies workwear and linen services to a wide range of business including restaurants, hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs, residential homes and care homes, as well as a number of industrial clients.
Deeside's fleet of vans cover an area taking in Blackpool, Preston, Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire and North Wales.
The laundry was founded in 1889 by Major James Patterson and bought by his brother -in-law Matthew Grier the following year. Deeside remained in the Grier family for nearly 80 years and in 1912 moved to the Groveside site, which it still occupies. .
The company is now owned by Nick and Jonathan Cross, whose grandfather bought the laundry in 1968. The two brothers have grown the business further, expanding the garment business into high care sectors such as the food and medical markets. A second site with a clean room unit has been opened at Hoylake.
Business development director Nick Cross said: "We are one of the few remaining mid-sized independent laundries in existence. Smaller operations have entered the sector to serve the smaller establishments and larger national companies deal with national hotel and restaurant chains as well as well as large hospitals.
"However, we are happy to have found our niche and trade on the fact that we are small enough to respond to customer requests quickly but large enough to invest in the latest machinery and continue to offer the best products and service in the industry".
