Ecolab emphasises the importance of laundry hygiene in second wave of Covid-19

UK/INTERNATIONAL
Ecolab is highlighting the importance of laundry hygiene as the world confronts the reality of the breaking second wave of Covid-19 globally. Though the first wave of the pandemic was entirely unprecedented and to some extent unpredictable, leading scientists made one thing clear very early on – the importance of hand and surface hygiene, said the comany.

With all evidence pointing to the virus’s ability to survive on inanimate surfaces as well as being transmitted from person to person, (Journal Of Hospital Infection) the importance of high quality hand and surface hygiene was strongly emphasised.

In the laundry industry, where transmission is possible both from textile use and from hand to surface contamination, it is important that the most rigorous hygiene practices are strictly observed.

How to ensure safety in the laundry?

Ecolab’s PROTEX360° Laundry Protection Program provides five pillars on which to base your plant’s operations during the second wave of pandemics

Washing Solutions

The most important component of PROTEX360° Laundry Protection Program is arguably the washing solutions. With the range of Ecolab’s D+ solutions, specifically developed to cover the full spectrum of disinfection, commercial laundries can be certain that cleaning needs of their customers are being addressed. Each of these solutions has been tested for virucidal efficacy according to EN 14476.

For further support in crafting a comprehensive hygiene approach at the plant PROTEX360° Program also incorporates a Hygiene Plan. This includes a full outline of guidelines and procedures that ensure the safe use of the hand and surface sanitisers needed to protect the different areas of operations in a laundry. Hand hygiene is one of thekey parts of this because it ensures there is no secondary contamination to textiles after washing.

Focusing on staff safety

A holistic hygiene approach will, of course, also focus on keeping staff safe. As well as ensuring that staff take time off if they are potentially infected outside of work, hand hygiene stations are vital to prevent transmission within the workplace. Ecolab’s touch-free Dermados Station ensures maximum hand hygiene in even a busy workplace by bypassing the need to press buttons or levers.

Guidance from The Centres For Disease Control & Prevention describes the importance of frequent hand-washing, particularly after coming into contact with shared surfaces (CDC). Ecolab’s Skinman Soft Protect FF hand sanitiser is perfect for this necessary frequent cleaning. Not only is it fully virucidal, but it is specially formulated to protect the hands where other sanitisers may damage the skin after frequent use.
