FCRA appoints chairman

27 January 2000

After a career in the laundry and drycleaning industry that spans nearly 50 years, Geoff Hannam has become the new chairman of the Fabric Care Research Association. He has been on the FCRA board since joining the Council in 1996, staying on when the Council disbanded in 1997.

He is well qualified for his new position having strong links with both the FCRA, and its predecessor, the Dyers and Cleaners Research Organisation (DCRO). While still at school, he started working with the family drycleaning business and DCRO member, Denbigh’s of Doncaster, eventually going full time and staying with the business for over 20 years. He has also worked in several sectors of the laundry industry including machinery supply and a spell as a rep for chemical supplier Kreussler. He held several managerial positions in hospital laundering before returning to the supply side and is currently responsible for sales and technical support (North of England and Scotland) for Aquafilm.

As well as his strong career experience, Mr Hannam has played an active role in industry bodies including the Guild of Cleaners and Launderers and the Society of Hospital Linen Service and Laundry Managers.

Mr Hannam’s appointment marks an important step forward for the association as over the last 12 months, the board has appointed chairmen for each meeting on a rotational basis.
