Accreditation is important in validating a laundry’s expertise in processing healthcare textiles – a message worth communicating to their healthcare clients, according to board president John Scherberger of the Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC).

Saluting the 61 healthcare laundries that received HLAC accreditation in 2016, he said: “With their HLAC accreditation, each of these 61 organisations has committed to a new level of excellence in the way they process healthcare textiles. This is a message worth communicating to their healthcare clients. It's a valuable way to reinforce with clients that they share their patient safety goals; and that their practices are the industry's best and most current available. It's also a reminder that laundries without HLAC accreditation come up short in these comparisons."

For more than 10 years HLAC has been inspecting and accrediting healthcare laundries. HLAC accreditation, which is good for three years, means that a laundry meets HLAC Accreditation Standards.Accreditation affirms that a laundry organisation that processes healthcare linens has successfully passed an inspection of the following: its facility, policies and procedures, training programs, and its relationships with its healthcare customers.
