Healthtex plant rated ‘excellent’

1 August 1999

The Bristol plant of Healthtex (UK) is the first laundry in the UK to achieve an overall “excellent” rating in the Laundry Quality Assessment Scheme.

Healthtex (UK) has recently received a Fabric Care Research Association certificate validating its laundry operation at Bristol, and the quality of its finished product, as excellent overall under the scheme which is now operated by SDML Consultancy & Training (UK).

The scheme, developed by the FCRA, has been operated for over 15 years, both in the UK and abroad. It has played a key role in raising standards and working practices in the industry, and is used widely by both commercial and public sector laundry operators. It is acknowledged as a reputable benchmarking tool and is often used in conjunction with a formalised quality system.

Value

Norman Gill, who runs SDML, said: “The value of an independent laundry quality assessment is that it gives a launderer the chance of a fresh look at the operation.

“We all know how difficult it is to see the wood for the trees, particularly with the many pressures on time and people, on a day-to-day basis. In these situations, very often the obvious is overlooked and poor practice and performance can rapidly become the ‘norm’, leading to reduced efficiency, increased costs and lowering quality. An independent laundry assessment can be a significant help in identifying areas for attention or improvement.”

FCRA validation ensures that assessment reports are impartial.

Roger Macmullen, UK director of Healthtex, said the quality assessment acted as an independent audit and as a testimonial to existing and prospective customers.
