Environmental charity Hubbub in partnership with The Campaign for Wool have launched #WhatsInMyWash, which aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact of the plastic microfibres that are released from synthetic clothing when they are washed.

The charity claims they get into the food chain and the chemicals involved are toxic, the long-term health impact of which is still unclear.

The campaign is promoting a range of clear and practical steps the public and other groups, including manufacturers of laundry detergent, can take to reduce the impact of microfibres on the environment and their health. As part of the campaign, a pop installation was set up at Old Street tube station in London (pictured).
