Johnsons Apparelmaster has been recognised in the prestigious Personnel Today Awards 2018 by being shortlisted in the Talent Management category. Other well-known and respected UK and global organisations that have been shortlisted for their achievements in this category include BT, Fujitsu, the Royal College of Nursing and The Berkeley Partnership. Personnel Today described the standard of entries this year as ‘extremely high’.

Michela Deegan, Johnsons Apparelmaster’s learning and development manager, said: “Our new talent management programme needed to reflect the massive development in roles, responsibilities, technology and innovation since our business began in the 1920s, alongside our real desire to develop internal talent to fill new positions. We also wanted to create a buzz where people who might not naturally be drawn to a career in workwear service solutions would recognise Johnsons Apparelmaster as a company with opportunities, effective career succession planning and a pragmatic approach.

“One of our biggest challenges was to develop a programme that would match the needs of staff from Aberdeen to Exeter, who are in a wide variety of roles from shop floor staff to Transport Supervisors and Customer Service Administrators. We created The Johnsons Academy to give staff, selected through a robust nomination and application process, the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge and build their internal networks, alongside live project work on real business issues.”

Gerry Moore, Johnsons Apparelmaster’s recently appointed managing director added: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award. The evidence of the many and varied benefits that The Johnsons Academy has made to our staff and to our business is already clear. Feedback has shown that the confidence and skill of the individuals involved increased considerably over a 12 month period and over 70% of Academy members were promoted to a new position within the organisation over an 18 month period.”

The awards, which are now in their 20th year, will be made on 21 November at a celebratory event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
