An agreement has been reached between the Worshipful Company of Launderers (WCL) and the Guild of Cleaners and Launderers (Guild) to make the award and qualification of Advanced Launderer available by application to Livery members of the WCL.
The title of Advanced Launderer is an award that has been presented by the Guild to their members who have achieved the highest level of technical competence; this has either been by recognition of their acknowledged competence in either the laundry or dry cleaning industry or by examination theoretically and practically at an advanced level.
The Liveryman of the WCL need not be currently a Guild member to apply but if they achieve the honour Guild membership, with all the benefits it provides will be a requirement and to retain the honour, both membership of the Guild (£100 pa) and the WCL will be an ongoing requirement.
A Liveryman can apply for Advanced status if they feel that they can pass any or all of the following criteria
- A Livery member of the WCL/ or
- Minimum of 5 years in the industry and
- Hold Guild Qualifications at an Advanced level/ or (2) above and
- Employed at a minimum level as a manager or Head Of a department within a company or are a self-employed launderer/dry cleaner
- Workplace may be subject to inspection and examination by a Guild representative to ensure that the necessary Guild standards are met
- An examination to prove technical competence, if the applicant has not already achieved a compatible qualification.
Rewards for achievement
- The right to call themselves an Advanced Launderer or Dry Cleaner with AdGCL after their name
- A certificate of qualification, which can be displayed at their workplace
- A generic advertisement/editorial provided by the Guild which can be placed in the local paper or on social media
- Their own or Company name added to the list of Advanced Launderers/Dry Cleaners on the Guilds Website
