Laundry wins quality award

3 August 2001

Laundry Services at University Hospital Aintree has gained the quality accreditation ISO9002. For business manager Bernard Flanagan and his team, the award is a sign that the management systems they introduced are paying off.

“We have an excellent and growing reputation for producing high quality, cost-effective work and for giving our clients best value,” said Mr Flanagan.

Remaining few

The laundry is one of the few remaining NHS laundries in the north west of England, and 70% of its work comes from the NHS.

Commercial clients include the Pontins holiday camp complex at Southport and some 100 hotels and businesses in and around Merseyside.

In the course of a week the laundry handles 75,000 items. During the last few months when there has been high demand on beds, the Aintree workload alone has risen from 48,000 to 56,000 items. The laundry runs six days a week with 48 staff working

flexishifts.

Mr Flanagan said: “We want more people to know that we offer a real value-for-money service.”
