NHS laundry worker named as Trust's employee of the month

26 March 2015

UK
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has named laundry worker Wilf Pye as its Employee of the Month for March.

Pye who has worked in the NHS, in the busy laundry at the Royal Blackburn Hospital and previously at the Queens Park Hospital, for a total 37 years was selected for going the extra mile over the busy Christmas and New Year period.

Royal Blackburn's laundry manager Mark Burns nominated Wilf for the award. He explained that a breakdown over the festive period, meant linen had to be loaded and unloaded manually. Pye not only did most of the heavy lifting but also gave up his days off to help.

Receiving his certificate, Pye said: "There is nothing more personal to a hospital patient than bedding and nightwear, so it gives me and my colleagues' great satisfaction to deliver a high quality laundry service to hospital wards and patients."
