RP Adam welcomes MP to Selkirk HQ

Calum Kerr, MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk, visited leading cleaning and detergent manufacturer RP Adam in Selkirk on 9 December to mark the company’s recent accreditation as a Scottish Living Wage employer and its endorsement of The Scottish Business Pledge.

RP Adam made a commitment to both Government-led initiatives earlier this year as part of the year-long celebrations for its 125th year of operation.

The Scottish Business Pledge is a partnership between Government and business geared to boosting productivity, competitiveness, sustainable employment and workforce development. As a primary requirement of the pledge, the Living Wage accreditation recognises employers for paying all their staff a fair wage – which is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually based on the cost of living in the UK.

The company also used the MP’s visit to highlight the commitment made by Arpal Group (RP Adam) this year to the Meals & More scheme, a charitable programme spearheaded by major distributor The Brakes Group, aimed at tackling child poverty across the UK.

Calum Kerr MP said: “My visit to the Selkirk HQ of RP Adam was a welcome chance to mark a major anniversary and to see one of our local firms show a real commitment to investment in its workforce through the Living Wage and the Scottish Business Pledge.
A fourth-generation family-owned company, RP Adam employs over 80 people across the UK and in 2016 its Selkirk-based manufacturing plant this year benefited from a £400,000 investment, to increase capacity by 40% in line with increased business growth.
The expansion of the Selkirk plant is a major part of the company’s five year investment and growth programme, launched to mark the anniversary, which sets out a £20 million turnover target to be reached by 2020.
