Sunlight buys Daybrook

1 February 2002

Daybrook, the Nottingham-based laundry, is to sell its linen and workwear hire business to the Sunlight Service Group.

The company announced the sale last month (January). When the transfer of laundering and distribution operations is complete, the Nottingham site will close with the loss of around 270 jobs.

Commenting on the sale, Michael Arlington, Daybrook chairman, said that many small laundries had experienced low profitability over a long period and many customers were paying lower prices than they did 10 years ago.

He was confident that Daybrook's customers would continue to receive the same high-quality service from Sunlight.

Daybrook Laundry was established as a domestic service in 1875, but it switched to contract hire in the 1960s as ownership of automatic washing machines started to grow.
