A survey by Berendsen, the textile and laundry services provider, stresses the importance of achieving "gold standard" quality when providing hotel guests with bedlinen and towels.
Research commissioned by Berendsen in May this year, saw over 1,000 UK hotel guests interviewed. The majority ranked towel freshness, softness and scent as the most important indicators of quality.
A majority also preferred non-branded towels and expressed a preference for plain white towels and bedlinen over patterned or coloured options.
The research also revealed that the thickness and weight of towels are less important indicators. Less than one-quarter of respondents said that weight is important.
Other findings showed that 60% of respondents prefer a large bath sheet over the standard size found in homes; 73% expected their towels to be laundered at least on a daily basis; and almost half of the guests questioned expected to be provided with a face cloth. This applied especially to business guests, which accounted for two-thirds of the respondents.
