Time to stop for CFC 113

Dear sir, This is to inform you that solvent CFC 113 ‘(trade names: Arklone (ICI) and ‘Valclene’ (DuPont) used in the process of dry cleaning will be prohibited under a new Regulation on substances that deplete the ozone layer which will take effect from 1 October 2000.

You will no longer be allowed to use solvent CFC 113 after 1 October 2000. Use of CFC 113 is defined as use for servicing or maintenance of equipment, including top-up.

The alternative that you may wish to consider is perchloroethylene, most frequently known as ‘perc’ (trade names: ‘Perklone’ (ICI) and ‘Dowper’ (Dow)) although you should contact your machine supplier or solvent supplier for information on this matter.
