Urgent call for materials and textiles for making NHS scrubs

7 April 2020

UK
Kirsty Holdsworth general manager, Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry (ABSCI), has reached out to Ken Cupitt, council chairman at the Guild of Cleaners and Launderers for help in urgently locating materials for manufacturing scrubs for the NHS.

Holdsworth said: “A former M&S colleague of Paschal Little and Ian Morris, both ASBCI members, is organising to make vitally needed scrubs, with a group of volunteers she is connected with in Buckinghamshire. She has asked the ASBCI for help to source the following materials as soon as possible”

Fabrics and other related materials

1. Woven fabric (Navy or blue 50 - 100m): 115/120g/m2 65/35 poly cotton, but 60/40 would also do. Pre-shrunk please, as it has to be washed at 60 deg C+

2. Around 50m of elastic, herringbone tape, approx. 2cm width

3. Sewing thread - 10 reels of poly/cotton, colour navy or blue

Printing of cutting patterns

The master cutting pattern would be supplied, can any ASBCI member offer to print patterns to distribute to the group of volunteers?

Cupitt asks anyone in the textile care industry who may have any contacts in the cloth and clothing trade who may be able to help to let them know of any availability. Could anyone who can help this week on any of the above please send an email to: -
