Greenness grows marketing edge

The Electrolux Group is a global organisation strongly committed to supporting environmentally protective measures, and it believes this not only makes a contribution to the well-being of the environment but also, commercially, provides it with a marketing edge.

Notably, the group has, for some time, annually produced an environment report as well as a financial report.

Electrolux Group headquarters are in Sweden and the organisation has fully complied with Swedish government wishes regarding the following of environment-conscious activity.

In the laundry equipment area, the ISO 14001 standard has been attained for an environment management system covering everything from product design through to manufacturing and marketing.

Products have to operate with a variety of environmental protection considerations taken into account, and packaging needs to be recyclable.

As part of its environmental policy, Electrolux ensures that every new washer-extractor model uses less water, energy and detergent than its predecessor. The new model also has to operate with lower noise levels.

David Hayes, managing director of Electrolux Laundry Systems in the UK, says that Electrolux’s environmental stance is being underlined more firmly in Britain.

Ten years ago, few people cared about how water, energy and detergents were used. Today, concern is considerable and there is an expectation of environmental responsibility.

Ten years ago, a 7 kg capacity washer-extractor required 206 litres of water for a 60°C wash cycle. Today, the requirement is only 113 litres.

A 23 kg rigid, bolt-down, machine needed, 10 years ago, 525 litres for a 60°C wash cycle. Now the requirement is 307 litres.

For commercial laundries, Electrolux Laundry Systems is offering the FLE 400 washer-extractor with water recovery system. Water from the last rinse phase of the program is recycled and total water consumption is cut by 20%.
