Stepping up in tough times

The Coronavirus crisis has led feeder and folder manufacturer Fintec to re-evaluate its offering and to push forward on digitalisation

According to Ann-Kathrin Henkel at Fintec: “During this exceptional time we have all experienced with Covid-19 over the past months, we tried to find ways to make the best of it – and at the same time prepare for the time ‘after Covid-19’.

“The Coronavirus crisis has reaffirmed to us all the advantages that the ‘Made in Germany’ seal of approval holds - from the creation of jobs in the region to significantly more independence from outsourced production facilities abroad (especially the benefit of European manufacturing instead of outsourcing to Asia). We guarantee production and delivery security through the availability of the majority of machine components from our own production.”

Last year Fintec received approval from the main customs office to simplify the export of goods and are therefore now authorised exporters, which holds advantages for Fintec and its customers. “Personal contact with our partners and customers is extremely important to us - we want them to know us and in return we want to get to know them. However, personal contact has also been impossible recently due to Covid-19 – including the support from our team on site. We have therefore looked for ways to provide other means of support beyond telephone or written support. With video telephony, minor problems or ambiguities can often be solved or demonstrated promptly and cost-effectively.”

It is a strategy that Fintec plans to to maintain and expand post-Covid-19, especially for customers and partners at a distance but stresses this is not intended to replace personal contact in any way, but only to provide complementary support.

Product range

“Like many others, we too had prepared for the international trade fair in Frankfurt,” says Henkel. “Now Texcare International will take place in November 2021, but regardless of this postponement we have continued working on our planned further developments, especially in the area of digitalisation. The pandemic has made it clear once again that many companies still have a lot of catching up to do in the field of digitalisation; especially since the competitive situation in our industry will remain tense.

New technical possibilities include simplified maintenance to modulation of performance, especially for highperformance tunnel finisher VarioJet as the heart of our Vario system technology for optionally fully automatic molded part finishing.

An expanded operating data acquisition system - for all machines and modules - ensures even greater efficiency and the opportunity to digitise all processes. In addition to the collection of standard data, complex data can now be documented and evaluated.

A special feature is the option of data transfer to higher-level IT systems (open connectivity). The open connectivity enables the consistent digitalisiation of all finishing processes.

Fintec has also checked and updated safety standards in and around the machines in recent weeks.

Vario Fold F 85 M/A

The Vario Fold F 85 is for molded parts – working clothes, hospital and resident’s linen etc. It is available manual or automatic options – which leads directly to the most important feature: if a manual version is purchased, it can be easily upgraded to an automatic one by just adding the top part any time later. No new machine is required, no further remodeling, just putting the automatic head on top. It’s also worth mentioning, that the manual mode can still be used on the automatic model.

The F 85 has automatic length detection for tops, which enables the customer to process three different lengths without the need to change the program in between the items. The customer makes a pre-selection of three programs, for each the length range can be set individually. Then the machine automatically detects the lengths and uses the referring program while working.

The machine is easily visible from all sides and can be equipped with interior lighting. Fintec equipment for processing overalls has been revised and now covers everything in the field of working clothes.

“Despite – or perhaps because of – all of these unusual circumstances, we have used the standstill of the world around us and recharged our batteries, which were exhausted from the hectic world as we knew it, in order to be able to restart full of new energy,” says Henkel.
