Tradition, innovation and sustainability are the core values of globally active hawo from the south west of Germany. The company has been a reliable partner for businesses looking for packaging machines for almost 50 years and, since 2020, with the launch of ORGANIXtex, it now also offers the first 100% biodegradable consumable for the industry.
As a family-run, medium-sized company, hawo has been developing and producing sealing devices and packaging systems since 1975. These are not only characterised by productivity, durability and ease of use, but also offer real added value for future-oriented drycleaners and laundries through innovative developments.
CEO Christian Wolf consistently focuses on resource-saving design and sustainable production for more than 15 years now. “Sustainability and environmental protection are not an empty phrase for us and certainly not a marketing tactic. We take the subject far too seriously for that” explains Wolf.
The company’s own sustainability philosophy is based on four pillars:
Mobility concept plan E
With the mobility concept plan E, hawo actively contributes to the reduction of the CO2 footprint – starting with the production of its own solar electricity and ending with e-vehicles and e-bikes powered by it for internal transport.
Plastic-free with concept Zero
By 2022, the company aims to operate 100% plastic-free at both sites. Starting with plastic-free packaging alternatives in logistics, this will gradually be implemented in all departments.
Resource-saving design with GreenTek
hawo places great emphasis on resource-saving design and engineering of its products. Due to innovative technology and features such as stand-by function, hawo sealing devices use a fraction of the energy of comparable devices - without compromising on quality. The new keyword ‘Sealstainable’ describes the bridge that hawo builds between its customers’ demand for perfect sealing results and the need for sustainability.
Sustainable consumables
Since the end of 2020, hawo has been offering its customers sustainable consumables to match with its packaging machines. The 100% plastic-free ORGANIXtex packaging material reliably protects cleaned clothing from environmental influences, just like traditional plastic sleeves. The new material is made from plasticizer-free, thermoplastic BIO granules and is therefore 100% plastic-free. Unlike so-called bio-plastics, ORGANIXtex is 100% biodegradable and home compostable, which means it breaks down completely in the home compost heap.
Total flexibility
The ORGANIXtex system is completed by the ORGANIX 630 KST packaging machine, which has been adapted to the new material. With this stand-alone unit, the length of the packaging can be adapted exactly to the garment to be packaged. Packaging that before was too long or too short becomes a thing of the past – another important contribution towards the conscious use of packaging in the textile industry, says hawo.
