However, EPA has said that it does not believe that wearing clothing drycleaned with perc poses a health risk.
The final health assessment has now been added to the agency’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS), a database that assesses human health effects from exposure to a variety of toxic chemical contaminants in the environment.
The Halogenated Solvents Industry Alliance (HSIA), which represents companies that produce perc and other chlorinated solvents, said it was pleased that the EPA had completed the review and removed some of the uncertainties related to evaluating human health exposures to the solvent.
The association added that: “HSIA also appreciates EPA’s reassurance that wearing clothes drycleaned with perchloroethylene is not a human health concern.”
