A London based laundry app has created a new on-demand washing service for university students in the UK, with the goal of being up and running in student accommodations.
Laundry Check is an app that allows students and domestic households to have their washing picked up, cleaned and dropped off along with an option of a 24 hour locker service.
The service is targeted at London-based universities and will provide secure lockers where students can unload their dirty clothes, arrange a pick up on the app and have their cleaned items handed back to them or placed in a locker for them to access when convenient. The app charges £1.88 per kg of laundry or prices from £2 per item for dry cleaning, including an ironing service.
Kwame Boateng, founder and CEO of Laundry Check said: “For university students, the perception of doing the laundry is often seen as an old and traditional chore, often piled up and left for a parent to deal with when visiting. Our vision is to change this perception and bring the control back to the students by offering them a fast and convenient solution.”
Laundry Check uses industrial cleaning facilities, much like high-street dry cleaners do and transports the items through hybrid vehicles to reduce carbon emissions. The app is available to download on mobile phone and tablets, and users can also register for the service on their website.
“Most laundry apps target young professional with disposable incomes, but there’s a gap in the market for a washing service that is focused on student accommodations,” said Boateng. “Through my research, I found that most UK universities had no system in how their student’s laundry was sorted which is why I think Laundry Check is a perfect fit.”
