Christeyns, who manufacture and supply detergents and supporting chemicals for the UK laundry sector, has been recruiting apprentices for the last six years and fully supports National Apprenticeship Week, now in its 13th year.

“Apprenticeships are at the heart of our recruitment strategy at Christeyns and we are committed to developing the region’s future talent,” states Apprentice Scheme facilitator Neville Kildunne.  “National Apprenticeship Week has gone a long way to introducing the benefits of an apprenticeship to young people and put back the pride in this as a career path.

Manufacturing is not always the first choice for young people, but with the support of National Apprenticeship Week and the year round visits into local schools by our current apprentices, we feel perceptions are slowly changing.”

The apprenticeship programme at Christeyns was introduced in 2014 and since then six of the apprentices have moved into permanent roles in the business, with the remaining six working their way through the training programmes.

Christeyns offer two-year foundation apprenticeships as well as a one-year higher apprenticeship and last year introduced a four-year degree level programme.  All Christeyns apprentices work across the business, gaining experience in every department.

“Providing young people with the right skills and opportunities is vital for the future prosperity of both Christeyns and the industry and National Apprenticeship Week gives us another opportunity to highlight this,” concludes Neville.

In 2016 Christeyns won the Yorkshire Post Business in Excellence Apprenticeship Award and also hold the Investors in People Silver Award.
