Smarts’ green machine

1 June 2001

OCS Smarts has installed a Lavatec tunnel washer, supplied by Broadbent Laundry Systems, at its Newmarket plant.

The 35kg, 12 compartment tunnel washer replaces three washer-extractors, and has been chosen for its environmental advantages: 33% water savings and a reduction in effluent. It will be used to process flatwork for the plant’s customers which include Cambridge University colleges.

Deputy managing director, Graham Turner said that Smarts is reducing the effects of its processes on the environment.

“Wherever we can, we cut the consumption of gas, electricity and water,” he said.

The company has already installed similar machines at the company’s branches in Manchester and Hackney.
