LCN has learnt with sadness of the death of Tony Lee, a Fellow and long-term member of the Guild of Cleaners and Launderers.
Tony had been ill for many years and was fighting cancer which kept recurring even though he had been receiving treatment. He passed away on 29 January.
Tony had been a prominent Guild member serving on the Guild Council for many years. He was National Treasurer also in his time on Council as well as Chief Examiner for Dry Cleaning when serving on the Guild's Examination Board.
His drycleaning business in St Helens is now run by his two sons, Stephen and Andrew, and he also leaves a wife, Cecelia, and daughter Caroline and he was a proud family man and very fond of his grandchildren.
Ken Cupitt FGCL, Guild Council Chairman said: “Many members will have regarded Tony has a friend and many others will have had training under his tutorship when he ran dry cleaning skill courses.”
“Although not tall in stature Tony was big hearted and would help anyone in need and many new start up businesses received unsolicited help in their early days when he turned up to guide them through what could otherwise have been a difficult time.”
Ken added: “Many of us on the Guild's Council have lost a dear friend. We send our best wishes and deepest sympathy to his family at this sad and difficult time.”
