The father and son team behind HJ Weir, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of flatwork finishing equipment, have notched up a major rallying triumph in Barbados. Weir Rallying UK came third in class (Historic 2) and third overall Historic at Sol Rally Barbados 2018.
A total of a total of 91 teams took part, 41 from overseas and 55 finished.
Weir Rallying UK is newly formed Welsh rallying team made up of a very experienced group, team principal Rob Weir, his son and co-driver Ross Weir and driver rallying champion Dave Jenkins of Dave Jenkins Motorsport.
This team is backed by the Weir family of brands with HJ Weir Engineering based in Chepstow in South Wales and WeCoTec UK, a newly formed company that sells world class washer-extractors to commercial and industrial laundries across the UK via Milnor USA.
Weir Rallying UK competed with a complete re-brand and brand new car build main mechanical components being Ford Escort Mark11. Engine 2-litre BDG, coupled 5-speed ZF gearbox coupled Atlas axle designed and made by Dave Jenkins Motorsport.
“Considering this was Dave and Ross’ first rally competition together, they gelled really well, “ said Rob Weir. “What pleased me is that Dave said Ross is definitely the best that he’s ever had as a co-driver, which says a lot. The reaction to the car in Barbados blew us all away – it was spectacular site to see crowds of people queuing up to see the car and engine and take photos.”
