Exhibitions play an important marketing and communications role in the textile-care industry but their number and frequency has increased to a point where exhibitors cannot support them all.

The European Laundry Manufacturers Organisation (Elmo) met recently to rationalise its approach to exhibition support. The major laundry equipment manufacturers thought that an international exhibition held in Europe every four years was adequate but they recognised that smaller, national exhibitions would better serve the drycleaning and small laundry equipment suppliers.

The meeting agreed that an international show for the large laundry equipment suppliers would be held every four years starting in Frankfurt in June 2000 and that an international drycleaning machinery and small laundry equipment show would be held every four years commencing in Milan in 2002. The US Clean Show, to be held in New Orleans in July 2001, was still considered to be an event that should be supported. The next meeting of Elmo is scheduled for June 2000 when further organisational details such as exhibition names and future venues will be decided.
