The agreement, which was effective from June 15, does not include any manufacturing plants, nor does it cover employees or financial obligations.

Announcing the acquisition, Sankosha said that with the Ajax brand and product line, it hoped to strengthen sales to the drycleaning sector by offering a fuller range, while at the same time continuing to develop the laundry sector.

A spokesman for Alliance confirmed that Ajax has already ceased production of its pressing and finishing line, but the agreement will allow the USA-based company to sell its existing product inventories for a limited period, and provide spares and service for Ajax products for an undisclosed period.

Alliance retains control of its Speed Queen, Huebsch and UniMac brands.
