Barker enters specialist hospitality commercial laundry market

3 April 2024

UK
Dorset based Barker, the largest domestic laundry in the UK and a leading drycleaner, has entered the commercial laundry market, with a specialist offering to boutique hotels and airbnb across the Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole (BCP) region and the New Forest in Hampshire.

The business’s expansion into the sector comes after significant investment 18 months ago of nearly £1 million in new plant and machinery. This has led to significantly increased efficiencies, as well as achieving sustainability goals within the business.

Barker managing director Matthew Barker said: “The extensive refit led to increased capacity and capability of some 50% and 20% more working space, achieved through a clever redesign of the workflow and repositioning of plant and machinery.

“Branching out into the commercial hospitality sector feels like very natural and organic growth for the business and we are so pleased that over the last two years our revenue and margin has grown significantly with further exciting growth in the pipeline this year.

“Even in just the first quarter of 2024, our revenue in the hospitality sector has grown by over 10%. There is much positivity being felt.

“Various closures and amalgamations of larger industrial laundries over recent times have left many of their clients in the hospitality sector desperate for good quality laundry services. New business opportunities have become available to us and we are well prepared to service them.

“We have a great team across the whole business, which includes 4 retail shops in Dorset and we are proud to service so many fantastic clients across Greater London and southern England, with a weekly collection and delivery laundry service,” said Barker.
