Danish laundry group, Berendsen, has acquired the Swedish laundry, Landstingstvätten i Eskilstuna AB which employs 150 people and has a turnover of approximately SEK 70m, (US$7.2m). Landstingsvätten operates mainly within the hospital sector having facilities for laundering clean-room garments.

The purchase price is SEK 70m. Additionally, Berendsen takes over interest-bearing debts of SEK 16m.

Landstingstvätten i Eskilstuna AB is centrally located, 100 kilometres West of Stockholm, making it possible to service 90% of the population.

Berendsen says the company's prospects for growth are good; buildings and machinery are in good condition and the laundry has considerable capacity which at present is under used.

Henrik Brandt, President and CEO of Berendsen said: "The acquisition presents interesting prospects for our servicing of the health care sector in Sweden. As regards geography and production, the company has a good platform for growth, partly due to further outsourcing and partly due to the market. We are gaining a strong position within the clean-room garment sector."
