Brooks Service Group goes into administration

13 February 2007

Derek Howell, Colin Haig and Rob Lewis of PricewaterhouseCoopers were appointed joint administrators of Brooks and its subsidiary companies on 13 February 2007.

The group operates from nine sites throughout the UK and employs approximately 1,200 staff. The administration follows a substantial drop in the workstream.

The administrators have secured the sale of the workwear part of the business to Sunlight Service Group safeguarding some 200 jobs, and administrators will continue to trade the linen business as a going concern whilst they seek a buyer. There are no redundancies at this stage.

Brooks' sites include County Luxdon in Sunderland and Shaws Laundries at Gravesend, Kent; Leeds; London (Norwood); two sites in Bristol, at Ashley Vale and Aztec West, Almondsbury: Bradford; Batley; and Stoke.

Derek Howell, joint administrator and partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers said: “The administrators and the management team are working together to ensure continuity of service to all of Brooks' customers and, where appropriate, the smooth transfer of service to alternative suppliers.”
