Byworth boiler training courses gather steam

15 March 2007

The course, launched a year ago, is designed to provide operators of boiler plant with practical and theoretical knowledge. It was developed by Byworth in consultation with the HSE, the insurance industry and also has the backing of the Carbon Trust.

The course aims to ensure total safety for personnel and plant; ensure peak performance is maintained at all times; and ensure procedures are carried out in accordance with current and planned environmental legislation and best practice.

Each intensive four-day course is a mixture of lectures, group exercises and practical experience on Byworth’s own dedicated training boiler.

A fifth day is set aside for a written assessment. Each paper is then marked and assessed by Gastec. Successful candidates are eligible to use the designation Certified Industrial Boiler Operative (Cert IBO).

Byworth’s marketing manager Helen Shepherd said: “We are currently running one course every month for up to eight people with a pass rate of 85%. Most courses are held in Keighley but we are more than happy to hold a course at customers’ premises.”
