Christeyns UK, the Bradford-based laundry chemical manufacturer, was awarded an overall rating of three stars in a recent British Safety Council audit, after scoring 83%.
The British Safety Council five star occupational health and safety audit is used by organisations worldwide to benchmark their safety management systems against current best practice. The audit measures performance whilst identifying areas of positive or negative practice and provides a structured approach for continuous improvement.
Christeyns UK, part of the Christeyns group, based in Ghent, Belgium, employs 130 staff. The company has been a member of the British Safety Council for ten years and has a series of procedures and systems in place with strict guidelines to follow.
The four-day audit included a review of safety management documentation, interviews with managers and staff and site tours and inspections.
"We were keen to have the audit to see exactly how we were doing currently and if any improvements could be made," said Jayne Talbot, environmental, health & safety manager. "We were particularly pleased that we achieved 100% for some sub-sections and it is really useful to see how our procedures compared to the best of the best."
