The Belgian chemicals group Christeyns is further expanding its activities in Spain and Portugal with the acquisition of Betelgeux, the Spanish producer of hygiene products for the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry.

Christeyns has built up a strong reputation as specialist in cleaning and disinfection products in the European food industry. With the acquisition of Betelgeux, Christeyns fortifies its position in this market and takes a step forward in the geographical expansion towards Latin America.

Established in Ador (Valencia) in 1986, Betelgeux produces over 5 million kg of industrial cleaning and disinfection products. In Spain, and via subsidiary companies in Portugal and Chile, the company reaches a consolidated turnover of over 8.5 million euros.

During the last few years, Christeyns and Betelgeux have already worked closely together in the food hygiene market. This collaboration led to a fruitful relationship of mutual trust.

“With its top quality products, innovative concepts and well-trained people, Betelgeux is a valuable addition to our own Christeyns Food Hygiene department,” said Alain Bostoen, owner of Christeyns. “I am happy to welcome the complete Betelgeux team, which consists of 50 people, to the Christeyns family. Their professional know-how, market knowledge, reputation and product portfolio will help us to expand our activities and to continue shaping the Christeyns strategy.”

At the beginning of 2018, Christeyns will start with the expansion of the production facilities in Ador, which will make it possible to double the production capacity. Once the works are completed, the strategic management of Christeyns Food Hygiene for the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America will be centralised from the new buildings.
