CLEAN’s Yeovil laundry has partnered with Youth Hostel Association (YHA) to donate 6,500 pieces of linen to St Joseph’s School in Salisbury and HMP Guys Marsh in Shaftesbury to support their efforts to create personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline NHS staff.

The initiative, which has been developed by the teachers at St. Joseph’s School, started as a small call for volunteers to help sew batches of PPE and quickly escalated into a large-scale project. After becoming aware of the project on Facebook, Clean partnered with YHA to donate  surplus linen that would otherwise have been ragged. The 3,000 duvet covers and 3,500 pillowcases were split between the secondary school and HMP Guys Marsh, which offered to support the project through its rehabilitation programme. The donated linen is being used to fashion scrubs, hats, masks and bags for the frontline staff of local hospitals.

Rachel Ridley, head teacher of St Joseph’s School, said: “It is not often that I am personally lost for words but Clean’s support and dedication to this exceptional cause has been overwhelming. Your significant donation will enable us to support our keyworkers during this unprecedented time.”

Geoff Milverton, site director of Clean’s site on Lufton Trading Estate, said: “It has been fantastic to team up with the YHA and provide this very worthy cause with the materials they need to support our incredible frontline staff.

“At Clean we’re always keen to support our local communities and we encourage anyone that can donate material or their time to sew the PPE garments alongside the brilliant team at St. Joseph’s School to get involved however they can.”
