Curtain cleaner bites back

7 April 1999

In a recent case in Barnet County Court, GKS Curtain Services, London, won its claim against a curtain manufacturer. Several sets of curtains, which were subcontracted to GKS for cleaning, suffered from bubbling during the process. A report from the Drycleaning Technology Centre, indicated that the curtains bubbled when the perc softened the adhesive on the buckram stifferner. This caused the buckram to come unstuck from the outer fabric and then restick in the wrong places during drying and finishing.

GKS’ case was that the bubbling did not result from a fault in the buckram but because the wrong buckram had been used.
