Daybrook sells its business to Sunlight

17 January 2002

The company announced the sale to its employees on January 14. When the transfer of laundering and distribution is complete, the Nottingham site will close with the loss of around 270 jobs.

Commenting on the sale, Michael Arlington, Daybrook chairman said he was confident that Daybrook customers would continue to receive the same high quality service from Sunlight, but it was a sad day in Daybrook's history.

Many small laundries had experienced low profitability over a long period and many customers were paying lower prices than they did ten years ago.

Daybrook Laundry was established as a domestic service in 1875, but it switched to contract hire in the 1960's as ownership of the automatic washing machines started to grow.
