Drycleaners trade secrets - Buying an ironing table

20 February 2003

In my work, I see many tables which, either by design or installation, can only be used from one side.

With a Hoffman press this makes little or no difference, but with ironing equipment, you should try and ensure it can be used from both sides to suit both left- and right-handed staff.

Left-handed staff in particular, will find ironing from the other side difficult. Furthermore, many finishers may wish to finish different types of garment from one side of the table or the other.

While some tables are one sided, most manufacturers can supply equipment that is designed for use from both sides.

It is also worth remembering that ironing surface steam is an essential feature if, like many cleaners, you do not have a press and you only have one ironing table.

If you are in the market for new equipment, I will be pleased to offer free, independent, impartial advice.
