A £500 000 order for laundry equipment from Desmond & Sons, Northern Ireland’s leading Marks & Spencers clothing supplier, has given a boost to a company which only began trading last autumn.

The contract, secured by Dunlop Design Engineering Ltd, is for installing industrial washing machines, dryers and a water heating system in the refurbished laundry of Desmond & Sons plant in Londonderry, which makes garments exclusively for retail under the M&S label.

The order is reported to have put Dunlop, which supplies Kemco, Pellerin Milnor and Jensen AG Burgdorf machinery from its headquarters at Tandragee, Co. Armagh, on track to achieve its first year target of £1.5 million sales by September.

Other recent orders have included a £200 000 heat exchanger system for Levi’s factory in Glasgow and a £250 000 contract for high-tech water heating equipment for Dewhirst Ladieswear of Swansea.

“Our aim is to further expand our share of the market and become a major international player in the laundry equipment field within the next five years,” said James Callow, managing director.
