Electricity rebate offer promotes wetcleaning

1 July 2010

Qualifying businesses could receive up to $4,200 per system per site.

SMUD is a publicly-owned electric utility that serves 592,000 customers and a total population of about 1.1 million. It is the sixth largest public utility in the USA.

Applicants for its incentive schem must be using perc at drycleaning premises located in Sacramento County and have an active SMUD electric account at that location. Only one application per unit is permitted. Although there are other non-toxic equipment options, the water-based professional wetcleaning system is the only technology that qualifies for SMUD's incentive programme.

SMUD hopes that its offer of rebates will persuade more drycleaning businesses to consider professional wetcleaning. Monetary grants may also be available through the California Air Resources Board.
