Expo explored

7 April 1999

The Coin-Op Expo 99 show, held recently at the Royal National Hotel, London, had an extensive array of equipment, ancillary products and services for the operator of the launderette business to peruse.

The show was helping to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the first UK launderette—past times were remembered in pictures displayed at the show.

Coin-Op Expo 99 was organised by the Credo Business Group and supported by the National Association of the Launderette Industry which had its own colourful display at the show. The event attracted about 200 visitors, some of them travelling a long distance to attend.

Among items promoted by Electrolux Laundry Systems was a sophisticated, solidly-built cash card unit which can bring improved security to the unmanned operation. Muller Control Systems was displaying a central paypoint system.

Insurance specialist Spa Brokers was highlighting how its industry insurance package has been further enhanced. Theft of service wash items is now being taken included with new and renewed policies.

Included in JLA’s equipment display was the Maytag high efficiency washer, featuring a sloping drum—the machine is particularly frugal in its use of water.

Ancillary products and chemicals supplier Alex Reid was emphasising a wide range of items including specialised packaging and the Hagerty carpet cleaning system—which can be a revenue generator for the manned launderette as well as for the drycleaning unit shop.

Essex Coin-Op Controls was showing how updated controls can be a boost for business, while Crane Energy was explaining its services covering electricity and gas brokerage, group utility purchasing, energy management and water cost reduction.

Brookford, the re-established ancillary products and chemicals supplier, was consulting operators on how its services could be further enhanced.

Stor-Pak was displaying a range of products including launderette bag, giant duvet bag, extra-strong service wash bag, and extra-large, zipped carrier for heavier washing.

Essex Hangers Direct was promoting a wide range of chemicals and ancillary products—including Korbond retail sewing items.

Mistcroft was promoting its refurbished equipment and was showing new hydro-extractors from Podab.

Corgi, the council for registered gas installers, was participating and able to discuss work planning, gas safety and registration matters.

JAS Supplies was displaying a new dual packet vending unit. The unit is economically priced and requiring virtually no maintenance.

Scientific Sales was reporting much interest in its service wash, duvet washing and “conditions of acceptance” signs.

G & R Spares was showing a wide and varied selection of its expertly sourced equipment components.
