1 June 2001

Afree legal service is offered by Laytons, the well-known firm of solicitors who will advise companies on staff relationships.

Anita Coaster, head of the firm’s employment department, says that many companies face unnecessary employment disputes through ignoring the latest legislation and failing to have helpful employment documentation in place.

“Employment documentation and best practice should be viewed as a business tool” she says.

“There have been a host of new regulations recently from monitoring employees e-mails to the treatment of part time workers.”

Ignoring these regulation could cost up to £51,700 if an employee won his or her case at an employment tribunal. An unlimited sum could be awarded if an employee was found to be discriminated against.
