Giltbrook celebrates its 60th with £1m laundry opening

8 October 2007

Giltbrook Cleaners has invested more than £1million in the new 16,000 sq ft laundry at Manners Industrial Estate, Ilkeston. The founder's widow, Dorothy Jackson, now 96, spoke of "her wish to see the business prosper in future years to come" at the official opening, which was attended by more than 100 business associates and customers.

The firm was founded in 1947 by Henry Urlin Jackson in nearby Giltbrook, and is today run by his son, managing director David Jackson; daughter-in-law and director Margaret Jackson; and grandson Chris Jackson, who is general manager.

The laundry is designed to cope with up to 1.5 million garments a year and features some of the latest environmental developments, including rainwater harvesting systems, high efficiency direct contact water heater systems and the ability to recycle more than 30% of the water used in its rinsing cycles.

Giltbrook Cleaners specialises in renting and cleaning workwear apparel and other products, such as roller towels, logo and anti-fatigue matting and locker systems, to a range of industries throughout the East Midlands and beyond, including catering and hospitality firms, food processors, the car industry, engineering and manufacturing firms, transport companies and other businesses.

Key suppliers from the laundry industry, including Faithful, Alexandra, IDtextiles, J & A International, Wearwell UK, Rexodan International and Heating and Process Engineering, supported the opening.

To help support the growth of its workwear business, Giltbrook Cleaners has appointed Peter Moody as production team leader.
