Gunner Goodliffe recollects

27 May 2009

Chris Shepherd, LCN advertisement manager, says that Brian was encouraged by his family to write a book based on the detailed diaries he had kept of his National Service in 1952 and 1953.

His recollections include basic training in Oswestry, regimental life in the troubled Suez Canal zone and his “extraordinary appointment” as ADC to the Governor of Cyprus. There are details of travels in Jordan, Sinai, Syria and Cyprus.

Published in hardback, the book contains almost 400 pages. He has presented copies to each family member as a lasting memento of his life in the Army. A review has appeared in Gunner magazine published by the Royal Artillery Association and a copy has been deposited with Firepower, the Royal Artillery museum.

The book also met with wide acclaim from Brian’s friends and he believes that it could well have a wider appeal. Further details from brian@goodliffe.me.uk.
