John Scherberger, board president of the Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC), has received the designation of Fellow of the Association for the Healthcare Environment (FAHE).
The designation, of the Association for the Healthcare Environment (AHE), recognises current AHE members "for reaching the highest level of education and achievement in both AHE and the environmental services field," according to the association.
Only presented to the Certified Healthcare Environmental Professional (CHESP), FAHE status is given to active AHE members who have excelled in specific areas and have submitted an original, unpublished paper on a current aspect of environmental services.
Scherberger's paper - entitled "Maintaining Hygienically Clean Healthcare Textiles Within a Healthcare Facility" -addresses the challenges faced by healthcare organisations due to the absence of guidance from regulatory organisations regarding the handling, internal transportation, and storage of hygienically clean textiles (HCTs), as well as the lack of best practices standards in healthcare facilities. The paper stresses the need for healthcare facilities to include HCTs in their infection prevention programs.
