The first nine students in the Scottish Apprenticeship in Hospitality have taken a laundry masterclass as part of the three-year training programme run by some of the UK's top hotels.

The laundry masterclass, one of a series of speciality courses, was organised by Apex Hotels and held at its Livingston laundry, which opened in 2013 and now serves all the group's Scottish properties.

Andrew Taylor, Apex facilities director, gave a presentation on all aspects of the laundry. During a full tour of the operation, the apprentices learned about the equipment and met laundry employees. They also had some "hands-on" training.

The industy-led apprenticeship was launched during the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles and it provides on-the-job training across all aspects of the modern hotel industry.
