In Memorium Peter Harling

The death took place in July this year of Peter Harling, a founder member of NALO the precursor of NALI, on which he served for a number of years as a council management member, and for a period as chairman. He was 84.

Peter Harling commenced his career as operations manger for McKenzie’s, holders of the Bendix distributorship on Merseyside, subsequently joining the Chisholm Group of Launderettes which he converted from “staff” to coin-operated shops, and played a leading role in 1966 of the merger of Chisholm’s with Abercromby Launderettes to form Associated Liver Launderettes of which he became a director.

In the 1960’s he was the founder member of Standrette Ltd a company set up by Associated Liver in conjunction with two Hull-based and a London based group to import Zanussi commercial laundry equipment.The Rex Zanussi washer developed by Standrette in association with Zanussi engineering was widely taken up by the UK launderette industry through the late 1960s and 1970’s.

In 1975 Peter Harling was named Business Post Executive of the Year.
