Industry sales rise by 20%

27 February 1998

Optimism in the laundry, drycleaning and janitorial industry experienced growth of 0.7% during 1997, with one company in ten reporting a 20% increase in sales.

These figures, taken from The Plimsoll Portfolio Analysis– Laundry and Dry Cleaning examined 807 UK limited companies.

The survey also noted that 38% of all companies increased their level of borrowing in the last financial year. Around 29% of the companies surveyed were reported to be operating in the red.

Plimsoll concluded that profit losses were likely to be the result of competitive pressures, because around half of the loss-makers had to increase their level of debt in order to remain in the market place.
