Initial wins Bass supply deal

Initial Textile Services has won a seven-figure sole-supply deal to provide Bass Leisure Retail with a full range of textile rental and washroom services for its pubs, restaurants and hotels. Bass is said to be the first major UK leisure retail to appoint a sole supplier for both textile and washroom services. Bass says it will make the logistics of running the business far easier.

Initial md Jonathan Smith said that a dedicated management for the contract would be put in place. The company has also set up a freephone hotline for all Bass outlets and is developing a bespoke IT programme to provide Bass head office with daily feedback.

On the textile side, the two-year contract will cover the provision of chef’s wear, table and bedlinen and specially designed workwear for Bass sub-brands including All Bar One and Harvester. Some 2.4 million items of linen will be supplied over the course of the contract and processing work is expected to increase by over 90 000 pieces per week.

The contract will also mean substantial investment in plant and jobs.

Initial has already invested £570 000 in plant at Nottingham and effectively 12 new jobs will be created there. In September, a £500 000 investment programme starts at Bradford where a similar number of new jobs will be on offer.
