IT couple spot gap in Oxford's drycleaning market

27 March 2003

The business opened in March in a ceremony attended by local MP Dr Evan Harris.

Stuart and Louise spotted a gap in the local market when they worked at the business parks that are dotted around Oxford

."There were no convenient drycleaning facilities available, unless we drove into the city of Oxford," said Stuart Tofts.

"Though important, the shop is not core to our business," he added. "The most important thing is setting up the logistics to pick up drycleaning and laundry from workplaces and return them cleaned at the end of the day or the next day."

Located near to the main entrance of the Milton Park business area, the two young entrepreneurs hope they are well placed to pick up trade from the 6,000 people that work there, mostly in IT and biotechnology.

The location is also adjacent to the A34 road, giving access to other commercial sites in the area, such as the Oxford Science Park and Oxford Business Park.

Stuart Tofts explained the thinking behind setting up the company: "The premise of Purple Label is quite simple. We want to make the task of drycleaning and laundry more convenient for Oxford's business people. Like us, they are often time-poor and struggle to find the time to visit town to sort out their drycleaning, and after a busy working week don't want to spend the weekend doing laundry. We are meeting that need with a professional service which offers excellent value for money and superb customer service."

They have opted for a Renzacci Planet 45 perc drycleaning machine, Cosmos E finishing cabinet, Silver SV finishing table, Jolly Cold spotting table and Mini Blowdown and Hawo packaging machine.
