Johnson rolls out sewing room concept

28 June 2012

The concept was first tried at the Ilkeston branch in Yorkshire where the service tripled its turnover on alterations and repairs in just six months.

The group is now investing £200,000 to offer a sewing room service in Newport (Isle of Wight), Lichfield, Retford, Stamford, Norwich, Richmond, Keighley, Market Harborough and Beverley.

The sewing rooms offer garment tailoring and fitting and customers can also bring in garment designs to be made-up. Additional services include curtain alterations and trouser shortening.

The sewing room occupies a purpose built area within the branch where the seamstress works and can take measurements and carry out fittings in private.

“In the current economic climate, we are living in a “make do and mend” culture and the new sewing room gives our customers the opportunity to repair and update their wardrobes without having to spend a fortune,” said Johnson Cleaners MD Paul Ogle.
